    yeah the only thing i ever seen shipped with no water is an anemone and snails and crabs

    sounds bad sorry but it don't look good for your sponge I would try to get back to seller and try to get money back. you shouldn't send sponge or anything dry. unless it is uncured live rock.

    The LFS I frequent got a shipment of Nems in the other day that were all in no water. They were ballooned up within minutes in the new water.

    Them plus zoanthids, palythoa and sarcophytons all are routinely shipped with no water commercially.

    Nearly all are shipped to the states using no water and have been for a long time :) Of the thousands I received only a couple had water and I suspect that was just due to a new person packing in the Islands :) If you bleed the excess water out they ship better like that.

    I knew you get do it with critters that live above the tide line, but not nems. That is some cool info. :)
