So, I am ready to add water to my tank but there are some water stains near the top. I wanted to use some vinegar to clean this off but I am wondering what type of sponge is safe to use. Thanks.

Any dish or household cleaning sponge will be fine as long as it has never been used with any detergent or cleaning chemicals. I usually grab one from a new pack and use it just for my tank.

agreed..but also, I may add, if the stains are below the water line they generally don't show when full of water..because when I lower my water below water line when doing heavy WC, I see scale and such..but fill'er back up and it's gone, if it looks like something that could wipe off..yes, I'll use a sponge(tank only use)....but I guess it depends on what kind of stain your speaking of.

For glass,I keep a scotchbrite pad just for my tank, great for scrubbing without scratching.

Paper towels. No chance of accidentally buying a new sponge full of soap.
You can also use Magic Eraser sponges, however, MAKE SURE you buy the original that has no kind of detergent or cleansers in it.

    Magic Eraser, FTW.

Don't they clean EVERYTHING! They got old old meth blue and mercurochrome stains. Awesome.

Well, they don't work very well on dirty handprints on chalky wall paint, but they smear it around pretty good LOL.
