I recently had tgo move my tank to a new location and the water got very cold due to freezing temperatures. I had the tank back up and running within about 9 hours. Water temp started at 80 deg and when it was retested it had dropped to 62 deg. Now that my water temp has stabilized and all parameters are back in check I have notcied that I have 6 acros that are loosing the skin from the branching part of the coral. The base on all of them seem to be fine and still extending their pullips. I know the main reason for this was the shock. The question that I have is will the base encrust over the dead branches or am I better off breaking the branches off and letting the base start to regrow.
PS: sorry for the long intro.

i think you need to frag off the dead stuff. and try to keep what is left alive. and close monitor all other corals for die off.

I'm moving next week. I hate to hear this stuff.
I have some branches that died and it encrusts back over but I think it's best to cut it off with a good cutter. I think it will grow back faster that way.

I just moved 2 days ago and I'm currenty in the process of monitoring my coral health - I mainly only have LPS w/ some softies. My move was completed in 4 hours so hopefully there was not too much of a shock to the corals. We'll see....

    Good luck!

I have been monitering all the other corals for the last week and everything seems to be ok. All the dieoff on my sps corals has stopped and all of them have good polyp extension now so I am hoping that they should be ok and start to encrust the areas that had die off. I think one of the main problems was I had a fairly large hydnophora die in the process and the chemical released by that think turned my entire tank white. Shortly after that is when I noticed the problems with the rest of my sps corals. I have a pearlberry and a blue voodoo the seem to be completly dead.
