Hey everyone, I got a few frags from an old friend this weekend (or rather and old friends mom since he's finishing up at Harvard) She really didn't know what their names were, she did a good job fraggin them though.

I got a Kenya tree (growing on a old snail shell, pretty cool) some Pulsating Xenia, and this SPS- just need some help IDing it, thanks!

Thanks, I'm liking it a lot. He also has a hammer, green star, and 2 toadstool leathers... His toadstools were really big- Is this something I would want him to frag for me as well? Or is my tank too small?

    yup. red Digi...
Toadstools are quick growers and very hardy. Easily fragged as well. I would say yes- get a frag. Have him cut you a small one and just glue it to a frag plug or rubble, and it will grow nicely, when it starts getting too big, you frag it and pass it on...

Just a note that the Montipora Digitata picture above, is a stoney so make sure to dose your Calcium properly to help it grow. I think it will also appreciate and color better near the top of the tank. Get it close to those PC's and change the bulbs when appropriate.

Nice, good advice... first stoney. I have him as high up as I can (thats where the other was growing, so I figured if it was working there...) I did pick up a calc test kit and have been keeping an eye on it. The polyphs are a lot more extended now after a week- looks really cool and fuzzy. I'm also amazed at how much the Xenia I got has grown- crazy!

As far as when to replace the PCs... every year or so? I can't remember what the LFS guy told me. Any info?

He hehe he... I was in the hobby before and after Nemo... I know it changed some.

Ideally you would change your PCs every 6 months is what I've heard. I stretch it for a year. This stimulates your coralline growth when the bulbs get a little old. Keep that on the hush-hush it's top secret info. ;)
