I purchased this SPS frag a few weeks ago when it was orange. It has now bleached quite a bit :uneasy: despite all the other SPS frags purchased at the same time showing good colour and some growth. Can anyone ID it for me so I can find out what it's most favoured conditions are?

The polyps look more like hair than polyps. It is definitely not covered in hair algae if that's what you're thinking. The 'hair' extends and retracts during the day and retracts when touched.

    Hopefully this picture helps:

Not sure cause it looks blurry, but looks like a frag of toad stool, can you get another pic at a different angle?

Don't know the ID, but if it's bleaching, it needs less light... or at least to be light-acclimated. I'd suggest moving it to the bottom until it regains color, then slowly move it back up.

That's as clear as I can get it - the little hairs are tiny, maybe 0.1mm each! It's definitely a hard coral, not a toadstool. It is a stick that has encrusted on to the frag plug... maybe this picture makes it look more like an sps frag?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
That I am guessing is a Fire Coral, not an sps at all but rather more closely related to hydroids with the ability to sting. Everyone once in awhile I see them sold as sps which is inaccurate. Note the hair like appearance. and the tiny pores, that usually gives it away.

Maybe I can get some unsuspecting person to touch it for me just to make sure!
