I was just wondering what the difference is between sps and lps, does the lps just get bigger? Most of the time I hear about hard corals everyone talks about SPS. Why is that?

At the surface, it's polyp size. SPS = small polyp stony LPS = large polyp stony

Beyond this, SPS requires more light, more flow, better water parameters. Typically, SPS grows quicker, but there's plenty of exceptions to that rule. LPS is regarded as easier to care for, as it requires less things to be 'right', as stated before (light, flow, water parameters).

SPS do not require feedings (and nitrates do need to be <10, <5 is better, as a general guideline). Many LPS do much better with spot feedings. Some LPS even require feedings to survive.
