Just a question. I was at a fraq swap last weekend and picked up and nice blue/white acro. Now that it has become acclimated to my tank the polyps that come out are big (like a small feather duster) and are brown :( it looks ugly now. Is this just the type it is? The polyps weren't out when I bought it and now I am regretting buying it.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

A healthy happy acropora is going to show the biggest polyps. The color of the acropora is a lot more likely to change than the colors of it's polyps.

Put up an image of the coral if you can and maybe we can ID and give some idea of the most common color of polyps for that coral.

For instance the Chips acropora has a lot of brown coloration to the polyps, it really all depends on the coral.

Rarely have I seen the polyps of SPS change color. In fact, only once in my tank has it happened.

My polyps have changed from brown to the color of the coralite but it was due to greatly increased lighting.

    Ding Ding... Winner.

That is what happened to mine. Moved it up to 12" directly below a 250W halide. Coral completely changed colors.

I posted a pic in the id me section but I'll post one here too. Sorry I can't get a better pic but its white with blue highlights and what looks like brown polyps.

The frag probably has a long way to go before it reaches a more mature coloration

Anyone guess as to what coloration if will take and therefore how it will contrast with the polyp coloration.

I would just watch it grow and see what it turns into.

I sense some buyer's remorse... Just let this be a lesson that when buying frags at a frag swap, unless you can positively ID it and/or have a picture of what the mother colony looks like, you may not know what you're getting.

Sometimes, you'll be pleasantly surprised as to what it turns out to be, though... I agree with the above, wait it out and see... if it grows out and you don't like it, you could always take it to a frag swap and sell it yourself.
