I got rid of most my LPS. Mostly all the real fleshy stuff like hammers and frogs and brains. I really like Favias and had several of those. Of course depending on your rock work if you have some quiet space in your tank that helps. I didn't my rock work was pretty open and off the sand mostly. So no real quiet spots.

I have found the flow on the MP's really drop off after 3 feet. If you get a single one, you should be getting lower flow for LPS / softies at the far end of the tank.

Personally, if I had the money, I would go for the pair of MP10WES and run them in anti-sync.

Now, I have to admit, I do have Koralias in my tank, as well as the pair of MP40W, but they are on a wavemaker function that cycles the 4 of them on and off at different intervals. They are cheap and functional. Besides the MPs, they are my favorite powerhead.

Ive owned all the pumps, except for the 20, and IMO it's easier to get a MP40 used, and if you go larger you can always get a second then upgrade with the Es driver. By itself, a MP40w is fine. But with two pumps, having the ES drivers is something you won't want to miss out on. Keep an eye out, couple weekends ago I sold 2 MP40w's with the ES drivers for 290 shipped, so the deals are out there.

Ive also had the Korolia #3 controllable pumps when they first came out, and without a doubt, the vortech is superior. The flow is wider, and a lot gentler than a Tunze.
Case in point, I would have no problem having a coral directly in line of a vortech, but no way with a Tunze.

As for having too much pump for the sized tank, you can always turn them down, and it would probably be easier on the wear and tear of the pump.

If you have problems with flow with your vortech, then it has a lot to do with your aquascape and positioning of the pump. Having a rock wall in a long tank will be tough for one pump, but turn that scape to an Island, or two, and then you can place the pump towards the front pane, and on the side of the tank, and you will have high flow in the side the pumps at, medium on the opposite side, and low on the back side.

Having fine sand is tough for a vortech, you end up with dunes, gotta use at least Sea Floor Special Grade and even that will move some.

$290 for 2 MP40s? I will keep looking around for used equipment. I posted something in the wanted section of my local forum as well.

The scape will most likely be 2 islands. It sounds like I will be OK with that.

The sand sounds like it my become a major problem. I got 90 lbs of it[sugar fine sand] at a different LFS than I usually go to, when it was on sale. I got it in Columbus; I live in the northwest part of OH. I really doubt they would take a refund for it. :/

Where did you see that MP40 for $200? I can't find it in the For Sale board.
