I have a nice rock with a great piece of fast growning SPS on it.

On that rock is a smaller piece(2'') of some pulsing Xenia and the SPS is starting to encrust and touch the Xenia now.

Will the Xenia be a problem for the SPS, I think I want to move the Xenia, but how do I do it. Cut it off with a razor blade and then rubber band it to another small rock?

I will take a pic once the lights come on to give a better idea of what I am talking about.

Depedning what the SPS is, i would say its more likely to hurt the xenia then the other way round.

No need to be careful with Xenia, I just rip mine off. Indeed use a rubber band!! It should only take a day or two for it to reattach.

Here is a pic of the situation. I am not sure of the name of the coral on the rock, but the Xenia also really close to the other coral, the Cali Tort.

Personally i think its fine, Xenia is so resiliant. Well in my tank anyway....

I would move it just because I'm cautious and don't like my corals touching or fighting, but I dont' think it's necessary. The best way to do it is to chip of a piece of the rock the xenia is growing on.

IMO it would be better to move the xenia, use a razor blade and lay it somewhere with low flow...

you have a couple of healthy SPS colonies, that xenia will probably explode in your tank. Unless you love it I would pull it.

the xenia will most likely grow on the SPS, it's very resilient as someone else mentioned.

I think I am gonna pull it out, mount it to a plug and sell it as a frag to someone....or just give it away when someone buys other frags of mine.

Ok....I ripped it off, and in the process broke off two branches of that other SPS that was on the same rock.

All 3 pieces are mounted now on frag plugs.

I didnt plan on fragging that main piece for a while, but what are ya gonna do.

    Frags for sale now!!!
