I picked up three squareback anthias yesterday and am still deciding on how i will handle the feedings. My current plan is to feed flakes and pellets via auto-feeder at 2:00pm and 4:00pm. and then feed frozen when i get home at 7:00pm. i was also considering switching out one of the auto-feedings for cyclopeeze. However, i'm not sure how the freeze dried cyclopeeze will do sitting out for seven hours before being dumped into the tank.

All of you with squareback anthias experience, please chime in with how you feed these guys.

On the cyclopeeze, will it keep for the seven hours it will be outside the fridge (I load the feeders at 7:00am each morning before leaving for work)? And is this even a good food for these fish?

    Thanks for your support.

If the cyclopeeze is freeze dried no problem, frozen I think it won't work.

Yes, it's a good food item for an anthias.

No, it's not a good food item after being out that long.

EDIT: Wait, what kind is it? Are you just talking about the dried stuff? I think I was thrown off by the fridge. None of my anthias ever touched it, to be honest. Feed them Rod's frozen fish eggs, mysis, brine, shaved anything/everything. Our blotchies steal food from our feeding sticks.

IME, I would not plan on them eating flake AT ALL. it took my Lyretail anthia over 6 months before I noticed him eating flake. That said, frozen Mysis, Rods and Frozen Cyclopeze were his main staple for that time period. Keep in mind that that is alot of food matter into your tank so make sure it is good and stable and watch you params.

I am a once daily feeder for my tank and have never been able to trust an auto feeder. The Freezedried cyclopeze will float when dispensed from the feeder and what I have noticed with mine is that the more current to swish the food around the better. I turned off my main circ pumps for feeding one day and it barely went after the cyclopeze. turned them back on and it was DINNER TIME!!!!

Yes, the cyclopeeze is freeze dried. They say to keep it in the fridge after opening so wasn't sure how long I could keep it out. My lights don't come on until noon and I leave the house at 7am. I already use an eheim auto-feeder to feed pellets and flakes at 2:00 each day but have it rigged to only add a single serving. I have to load it daily. I also use one of those floating feeding stations connected to the tank lid to keep everything in one place until it can get saturated and start sinking. I'm not sure how well this will work for the cyclopeeze. Normally, I shake the cyclopeeze in tank water for a minute and then pour it in so that it doesn't float on the surface. The rest of my fish love it, even the large Desjardini Tang which surprised me. I would have thought the cyclopeeze would have been too small to get his notice. Anyway, wasn't sure if the Anthias would go for it or not. I have plenty of different frozen foods to feed in the evenings but wanted to find something dry they would eat from an auto-feeder during the day.

yes, you never know. My Desjardini won't touch mysis. He will eat anything else but will ignore the mysis. The only fish in the tank that won't eat it.

yes, i have read that the food needs to be moving for these guys. That shouldn't be a problem in my tank. Believe me the food will definitely be moving. I really won't be feeding much more than i do already, i will just be splitting my 2:00 feeding into a 2:00 and a 4:00. i would just like to feed something non-frozen that I think the anthias will like.

Fish can be very individualized. I have to always have a back up because there's bound to be someone who will refuse choice #1.
