SRO-LX1000S HOB Skimmer Priced

The Super Reef Octopus SRO-LX1000S HOB skimmer should be hitting the shelves by the end of the month and making big waves with its Bubble Blaster pump. Our old friends at Reef Specialty have thrown it on their homepage for $289. A hang-on-the-back skimmer packed with a Bubble Blaster pump should easily put this HOB in the heavy-weight category.

[STRIKE]Questions remain... from we saw in the last few months the LX-2000 has the external pump configuration. the LX-1000 has an internal pump configuration.. yet here is a LX1000S with an external configuration? RS might have the wrong pics up on their site as their description indicates an internal pump.[/STRIKE] They were the wrong pics... they confirmed today... everything here is updated now.

The same skimmers are coming out under CoralVue and Super Reef Octopus name.


Anyway, the SRO-LX1000S sure appears ready to take on other HOB heavy-weights such as the Warner Marine H1 and the SWC Extreme.

Nice to see the HOB skimmer market being addressed.

YOU SHOULD KNOW:

Confusion reigns with these new skimmers. We received written confirmation that the LX-1000S has the internal pump configuration and the LX-2000S has the external pump configuration - YET - there are at least two online vendors that have the pics backwards for these new skimmers. Pretty sure we have it right, but just a bit of Caveat Emptor.

 

Note - Premium Aquatics has this skimmer for $229.99 on their site... RS's price may include shipping again.

Could they make it any more obnoxious looking? It's HOB so it sticks out anyhow, why make it red for Pete's sake.

 

Yes it is red.
Think about it though... how much of this will you really see?
It usually is behind the tank which usually has a background on it... so I would think that most of the time you would just see the clear collection cup and the lid. hmmm.. well you would see the body above the intake I suppose.. :-/

 

For what it's worth - these photos are very over saturated too.

I actually like having an overbearing look to my skimmer. Any time I show a non marine savi person my tank, they get this look when they see my skimmer. I imagine they're wondering how I managed to get this futuristic alien technology for my tank.

When I set up my mom's skimmer, she was in awe of the strange device that can filter with no mechanical media of any kind. Whom ever came up with skimmers sure had an odd way of thinking.

 

I'm in no hurry, so that would be awesome. I just need a good affordable skimmer, My bh-100f is so bulky and it never worked very good. What with all the micro bubbles always in my DT. I never could make them go away.
