So, I'm sure there are a bunch out there. If anyone has the Sunlight Supply TEK 4x54w T5 fixture (not Elite), please let me know your thoughts on it.

I'm wondering if I'll be able to keep SPS like Monti with it & attempt a higher light clam maybe (other than Squamosa/Derasa)? I've heard that the individual reflectors do make a huge difference.

I'll be going from a 260w PC fixture to it, most likely, wanted to see if it'd be worth the upgrade. FYI I'm sticking with the 4bulb as I cannot hang the unit over my 55g and it needs to fit mounted over it.

    Thanks,

What size of tank do you have? Height being the most important here.

standard 55g long but I do have a sandbed of at least 3"-4". The depth is 21" on the standard so I'd say 17-18" to the bottom of the tank. I would have mounting bracket on the fixture so would prob raise it about 2" or so.

    Here's my tank:

I have an aquatic life and it has individual parabolic reflectors and active cooling. plus it has 3 timers for daylights, atinics and moonlights. However not the name of a TEK but a great fixture. I l would think the active cooling of the elite is worth the extra.

Are you getting the fixture with or without bulbs? There is only a $30 cost diffrence between the 6 bulb fixture and the 4 bulb fixture. You should run with that on the 55. Nice tank btw.

appreciate the input & kind words on my tank, see my post, I mentioned I need to get a 4bulb that will fit mounted over a 12" 55g long. I cannot hang the fixture and also have hob equipment on back so it can't overhang back/front. I will take a look at the aquatic life fixture though thx.

With a 55g tank, a 4-bulb Tek should be fine. Consider the new Tek Elite, though, if you can. It has better reflectors and active cooling, both of which improve the light output even more. But either way you should be ok, just don't put your SPS or clams at the bottom of your tank.
