Ok so I have been trying to convert my penguin HOB filter to a Refugium. I scrapped that idea and found this thing at my LFS

I also had this little hang on filter so i cut the magnet off leaving it bottomless
so I could mount it to the acrylic thing I got at the LFS as a drip over method like a HOB filter...I also have this little light fixture I found in the garbage with a hex tank that will serve well for lighting. Any recommendations or advice would be cool im still working on it so im open for suggestions;D;D;D

That's an external overflow box. They would normally have plumbing going down to the sump.

    Should work just fine...remember..LOW FLOW.
You going with organic (cheato/Live rock/sand,etc) or synthetic( bio balls, blah, blah etc) for filter media?

yea i had no idea what this thing was but it looked like it would work ...im planin to put baffels on it and have all organic filtration...the inlet of water will come from my canister filter outlet and the lil HOB filter will drip the water over verrry calmly ...just waiting on the dremel to come in the mail and its on like donkey kong...

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hav a question also, would it be better to use unfiltered water from the tank or to have the canister filters outlet be the feed for water... if i use the canister method it will cut out an extra appliance using electricity and being in my tank

That depends in part on what you want to use for macro algae, any thing with roots will benefit from unfiltered water and becomes a part of the filtering plan....

Even cheato can mechanically filter the water and provides a habitat for pods...
