I'm getting ready to incorporate a 15g refugium in to my system and was wondering since it will return to the main tank via gravity, are baffles necessary? The supply and return lines are connected through bulkhead fittings so I don't think bubbles will be a huge issue and the ones that are there would probably be from air entering the return lines anyway. Also, would it be a problem to extend the return lines all the way into the water to get rid of the draining noises ? Thanks in advance for any and all pertinent info.

I wouldn't think you would need baffles. But how are you getting water from you main tank to your fuge? Usually this is were the bubbles are created and without baffles they may not be defused as they move through the fuge.

Shouldn't be a problem extending the returns into the water

Thanks for the input there J, and the water will be transferred via a quiet one 800 (approx. 200gph) 100gph after head loss. So I guess I'll put a 1/2 baffle where the water comes in to the sump to force the water down. Thanks again, K

All you want to move through a refugium is the total volume of the refugium per Hr and you have a 15 gal so the water will move at 15gph and bubbles should be not a issue ..
