Hey there everyone, I'm new here...but this isn't time for introductions!

Okay. I've got my new 36 gal corner tank. Unfortunately, I cannot begin to afford the stand for it! *sweats*

I was wondering if anyone had building plans that will support the extremely heavy weight! Since it is a corner tank, I know the awkward shape might cause it to tip forward if the stand isn't built correctly.

I wouldn't be so impatient if my fish weren't getting so big! Right now, all I have is a 10 gal...I was originally planning to switch over months ago, but due to unfortunate circumstances, I couldn't buy it...but now I have it, and I need the stand! Ah!

    Thanks for reading!!

Please get back to me, I'll be checking.

How handy are you? ( do you have tools? ie, chop saw, table saw? etc?)

I did not take pic's as I was building it, but I built my own

    http://www.3reef.com/forums/members...3-tanks-picture1340-55-gallong-eel-lions.html

I went to staples (office max) and bought a piece of construction paper and traced the tank. I used that as my template.

I used lots of 2 x 4's and covered the entire thing in 1/4" ply. it's SOLID.

I used cheap pine to add depth and make it look fancy.

I know this does not really answer your quetion as I did not use plans, but I built all 3 of my stands. the corner tanks took me 2 days from start, build, stain/polly, and in place. if you take your time, it's not all that hard ( but you need to have the tools 1st)

If your the handy kind of guy, Look around your area(LFS) and see which store has something similar to what you have and how it was built. Take pics with your phone as a refer. And just mimic the stand they have. Luna

    Ah, thank you!
Alright. Well, my boyfriend has taken carpentry classes and has even built himself a massive handmade roll-top desk, so I'm not about to question his ability! But we asked a guy at church, who built me my bed frame and such, to help us. He works with wood for a living, so I know he has tools and saws and what-not. I hardly know a thing about wood. Other than it'll give me slivers if we don't sand it!! Ha! In any case. I just want to know what we can do to keep my tank UP, my carpet DRY, and my fish swimming. Thanks for the replies! Any help will..well...help!

Btw, my corner tank is bowfronted. Just to let you know. It wouldn't be as much as a problem, but it's curved in the front.

    Thanks again,

PS-What kind of wood should I use, and will it make a difference that I have carpeting in my room? Will it be more likely to tip?

You could also either google it or try Youtube to find some plans. If you live in a state that has termite issues, I would definitely use PT wood. Luna

Wow. You are quick! I looked all over Ask.com and Google, but could only find plans for regular tanks and occasionally an octagonal plan. But thank you! No, I don't live where termites can get me (or my fish), so what's a nice wood that will be very strong? I looked at Petco the other day, but they didn't have a corner tank it at all. In fact, I ordered mine. Funny story, the guy dropped it, cracking a small corner of the plastic molding. So I got 40% off of it! Very nice. I bought a filter with the discount! Anyways...
Hopefully today, or tomorrow I will be going to get the supplies and such. Could you tell me what sort of screws and such you used? Since you have built things in the past, I figure you know what you're doing!!

If you have no termite issues, you can use regular Pine wood for the frame and a fine wood for the "skin". Like Birch or Oak or even Mahogany($$$$). I like to use Galvinized(sp) screws only b/c I live in Miami, but any wood screw should be fine. Ask your carpenter friend, he would be able to help you choose. Luna

Another thing you can do is go to a LFS and take pics of a corner tank stand so you have an idea how they are properly made. Do not use MDF or particle board for the stand frames though. Use those as your basic guidelines, then we can help you with the specifics. :)
