Hello all. I am not new to keeping reef tanks but I wasn't sure where else I could post this. I am getting my first large tank and I had a question about the stand. I bought a 150g tall (24x48x30) and someone I know is giving me a stand he no longer uses. I picked up the stand a few days ago and it looks all most new except for a (not so clean) hole he had cut in the side to run a pipe (about 7x4). He said it does not effect the stand but I wanted to get some advice from people who arent selling it to me. What do you guys think?[IMG]

    Hi and Welcome to 3reef.

May we please get an image of the inside structure of the stand, I imagine probably not since it's not in your possession. Approximately 1230 lbs of water alone. Craftsmen ship with regard to how the hole was made is questionable.

it will be fine...me personally i would try and clean up some of those drill bit markings and rips....basically to keep any cracks from propagating while it's in use. consider it like an ugly window cut in your tank or a door thats on a stand and the stand doesn't break.

I do have the stand. This is someone I would normal trust so the tank is on the stand with sand in it but I thought before I fill it with water I better get some outside advice. Here are two more photos. Not sure what you want to see so let me know. Thanks for the help.

If you trust him and it's his stand. I am sure he would not want to see 150 gallon tank go through a stand. Just curious is there any structural cross bars/braces??? I lack an engineering gene so hopefully someone else will chime in.

I can't tell from the pics. But most stands are built with a frame and then skinned. That looks like he just cut through the skin, which wouldn't affect the structure. But as I said, those pics leave alot to be desired

Its not that I dont trust him I just dont think he knows anymore then I do.
There is a bar in the middle which is supported on both sides with a bar in between the door openings and in the middle of the large opening in the back. This is my first tank of this size, last one was a rsm 130 so not sure whats what with this stand but I will try and take some better photos of the whole stand.

I believe this is the stand, the Marineland Majesty Aquarium Stand but in a black.

So is this a divider in the middle of the stand that he cut the hole in? Even without holes, I don't like that stand. Seems weak to me, and you are putting a HUGE tank on it. But I tend to overkill stuff....

The hole is about where the black box is. I believe it is the stand that is made specifically for the 150t. He had the same tank on it for about a year before he sold it because he had to move.
