I had bought a frag of star polyps and it looked pretty amazing to me. I set the frag down on some rocks for about two months. Now with a big tank overhaul I was thinking of moving them. The issue is that the frag has spread on to my rocks that I had in place so now my base rock has polyps on it. I'm guessing I can't just rip the frag off the base rock and leave the polyps that spread there without major issues huh? Never done anything with fragging before and aside from what I have read before about how some corals react to damage like that I don't want to wipe out my tank or anything...

Well I have a image below. Everything I have in the circle grew in 2 months... so if I move original frag what precautions, steps, or method should I use... or should I just leave it be and deal with it?

Sometimes you can get lucky and get the mat to "peel" off,but even if you tear it,it will heal quickly. If you have some that won't peel off the rock, move the mass and kill the remaining with kalk paste, but careful, using too much kalk at once can upset your ph and alk.

Just take a razor blade and cut where you want it to be removed. Take the edge of the blade and gently start lifting an edge away from the rock. When you have enough to grab you can for the most part just peal the mat away from the rock. If any remain I would actually use super glue or crazy glue than that kalk stuff because of it affecting the pH... super glue or crazy glue doesn't affect pH. good luck.

Thanks for all of the replies. I think I will get this taken care of tonight and have a few frags to trade.

You could throw this stuff into a mud puddle and it would live and start spreading (okay...maybe not quite that bad but you get my drift, the stuff is like a weed and actually can take over a tank if not properly trimmed!
