Just received a Monti Cap frag and have it in QT. It's mounted on a disc and one edge of it is lifted off the disc (looks like a "ruffled" edge of the mother colony).

Tonight, I noticed a "tentacle" come out from under it and then quickly pull back in. I turned the frag and was able to shine a light under it. All I can see is one "arm" of what I'm guessing is a brittle star. It's black/dark brown in color. I'm hoping it comes out further after lights out and I'll see if I can spot it with a flashlight.

If it doesn't, any way to tell if it's reef safe? Also, what's the likelihood that it's damaging the frag by living under it?

    Thanks.

EDIT: I did dip the frag in Coral Rx Pro prior to QT and that didn't seem to affect it.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I would be very surprised if it were anything other than a micro brittle star, which is harmless.

    Congrats on the new frag.

    Thanks.

Hoping that's the case. It didn't come out just after lights out, so I'll give it a little more time and see.

I have a bunch of the all white micro stars. Haven't seen one that was colored yet...

Yep. Black and gray striped. Didn't come out, but got a good look at an arm.

    Thanks for the ID!

FWIW, I've has some for years that never came out. All I ever saw was 2 or 3 arms poking out of a hole.
