I am interested in adding red bali and blue linkia stars to my 90 gallon tank. The catch is I don't know the care they require. As I don't want to throw an animal into my tank only to starve to death 2 months later, I would appreciate any information regarding their care, diet, and anything else I may be missing.

they eat detritus and algae. if your worried about they're diet you can give them some nori by puting it directly underneath them

karma for asking before you buy! I have a purple Linkia and he eats the slime. Not sure where the slime is or how it got there but they say, that's what they eat. My Purple Linkia has been in my tank for almost 2 months and is very happy. He's all over the tank and through the rocks

    Welcome to 3reef!

Thanks for the welcome and info. One thing I forgot to ask is that is it true that you need your tank to be set up for a few months? Some people say that you need your tank to be set up for six months, some say you don't and some people say you can get around the six month rule with target feeding and I don't know which is true.

    Thanks again for the help

I would at least wait for 6 months if not more. You really need to have an established tank to keep one fed. I have a blue Linkia but I also run a refugium on the tank too. Mine has been in there close to a year now.

I really wish to know more about the care of the Blue Linkia starfish, because it is on my wanted list, for sure =D I love all things blue, and the fact that there's such thing as a BLUE STARFISH amazes me, and I MUST HAVE IT O_O -_- O_O

    XD

Also, for those of you who visit saltwaterfish.com, I'm also interested in what that site calls a "Red General" starfish. I'm not sure if that's the proper name for it, because I mentioned it at two pet stores and they didn't know what the hell I was talking about ^_^'

But yes, please, tell me everything I need to know about both of these starfishes-- moreso about the Blue Linkia. I was nervous to hear from a pet store owner that the Blue Linkia could be more on the difficult side to keep. Please help me verify this, and educate me of it! =D

I've heard up to a year to make sure the tank is established for a blue linkia. That was my one and only total, I don't know what I am doing, impulse buy. One month into the tank. It had just cycled. It was a big beautiful starfish. It died in three weeks I think. Something like that. I tried to look up their diet. Couldn't find it anywear. If anyone has a clue tell me. The only thing I could find is that it required expert care. Oops. One dead starfish. Wait awhile if your tank is new. I do have a pic of it though. It's in my avatar next to a standard sized chocolate chip starfish (no, I don't have that anymore....it went back to the LFS).
