I would think their offspring could easily get pumped back to the display. I have an infestation of the darker small ones. They have a green tint. I have seen them eating coralline as well as eating some of my zoos and palys. I do not think all asterinas are bad. I think now that digital macro dlsr cams are becomming more affordable and popular, we will be able to create categories of safer asterinas vs not so safe. I have never seen my white white ones on any coral. They don't seem to multiply in crazy numbers either. But the green gray tinted ones are another story.

I have seen starfish blooms in videos and it seems very feasible.

Quite a few different species it seems.

Considering mine are the same darker ones with the green tint I guess I'll just have to flush them. Too bad I don't have a Harlequin to feed them to.

Yes, it seems like the white ones are fine and only eat coral tissue that is in necrosis which can leave people to think they are eating them.

I remember seeing a white plume coming from a small part of a live rock a few months ago. I am pretty convinced it was these guys propagating and come to think about it, any time I have seen these guys they were on a piece of coralline which is no longer there.

I think these guys split to propagate. That plume probably came from stomatella snails. I've seen them do it in my tank.
