There is a good link/vid in the thread I linked to up above for a mesh top. I am really considering giving that a try. I have egg crate I use at nights, but it wasnt the day time solution I thought it would be. I can see a light difference, so I know the corals can.

Go to home depot, lowes, etc.. and check out a window framing kit in the window section. It's like 15 bucks for the frame, then you can buy a roll of whichever screen you want for another couple bucks. It's really easy to put together, I have one on my tank. Doesn't take any light away from the tank either.

That is a good design. I used egg crate and might switch out the crate for the window framing.

Don't sea hare's release toxins when they are harassed or die. This is the reason I've avoided them.

Only some release toxins. Most release a blackish ink that will deprive the water of oxygen for fish. As long as you have good flow and run carbon it shouldn't be a problem.

Ha, just read through this; bout time you do a build thread! Awesome tank you got there. On the family/tank thing, i wouldn't worry about the parents too much... This is a good, actually great starter tank for you. The trick will be to find a guy that's either into SW or doesn't care and fully supports your hobby... so... when you get a house and want to put in a 250+g DT, they don't look at you and think your completely nuts... Not to mention sump/fuge/ATO/SW mixing tank/QTs/whatever else you can think of... suffice it to say, when i told my wife i want a 8' tank in our living room, i didn't get the giddy excitement that we would respond with :p
