If you're having algae issues, absolutely. I would only add a few detritivores/herbivores at a time, though-- I do not agree with the popular "x-number-per-gallon" rule; every tank is different and adding unneeded CuC adds to one's nutrient level through CuC die-off from starvation.

Hank are you doing water changes? If so, using RO/DI?

I have used TLC Smart Start to cycle both my reef tanks. It is a very good product in regards to getting the bacterial cycle going. That being said, I see they have other products; but...they seem vauge and don't tell much about what they have in them.

I will say that if you continue to do water changes you will lower your bacterial population over time. You may want to add Smart Start at 4 oz. per/50 gallons every other month.

I have seen no damage or health issues with my LPS or SPS using this product in this way. In fact, the water gets cleaner and clearer the first few days after use.

If you do use it, keep your skimmer off for an hour or so and add it to the main tank not the sump. Then use your skimmer! as it will create waste after eating what trouble algae needs to survive.

PM me if you want more info from my experiance with this product.
