OMG!! You would not believe what we did. I have been struggling with red slime algae for a while, so we bought Red Slime Away. I cant believe there is not a warning on that crap. We dropped it in and watched the tank. After about 45 minutes and nothing keeling over, we figured we were fine. Then, all of a sudden the sump sounded like it was sucking air. I opened the cabinet to see the protien skimmer barfing out bubbles. The stand is filled with water. Our feeding cups and misc. junk under there are floating. We spent Hours mopping up water, trying to figure out how we messed up. LOL. My dad is amazing. He siliconed around the edges after he put it together. Thank god. He then put a water resistant paint on the inside. It saved our buns. I think we would be replacing carpet this weekend if he hadn't been so brilliant. Wheew. Hey, and on a side note. No more algae.

Wow. Glad to hear everything ended up OK. At least it happened when you were home! Did you find out what caused it exactly?

Carbon, chemicals, and other additives seem to throw those Berlin Skimmers for a loop. We had one that we bought used, and when I added our carbon bag in the sump, it did the same thing. Went bubble haywire and filled the collection cup in no time at all. We had to turn the air intake almost completely fully totally closed for a few days.

We have since then replaced our old Berlin with a Reef Octopus and are quite happy :D

Nice pictures. I love the soap opera style of your aquarium setup over the past 1.4 decades. Did it have a script? :D

Ya, it was the red slime away. It just went bananas. Since this happened, I have read a few threads on 3reef about other people having the same prob. It's npretty funny now. Hey guys quick question. Our LT plate is still doing really well, but it hasnt inflated as big as it used to in a few weeks. Do you think I should be concerned?

Guess what we found? A MANTIS SHRIMP!!! I cannot believe it. I was watching TV tonight and Jeremy saw some eyeballs in a rock in our quarentine tank. I turned around and saw some nasty little eyeballs sticking out of a hole. We startled it with a light and he retreated into a hole. We took the whole rock out of the tank and started chiseling it apart. I'll add pics too!!

Ihave the same problem. My skimmer goes nuts after putting that stuff in. Even on the low setting. Thankfully, mine is in the sump, so all the overflow did not go on the floor.
