    also a probably silly question but can a UV sterilizer be used instead of a RODI unit?

    Absolutely. Corals and fish live in this water, they use it for everything. You want it as pure as possible. Spectrapure. You can go cheaper with results that fit spending cheaper, such as low life of the filters or low rejection rate.

    The benefits of using RO greatly outweigh the costs of the unit. It cuts down on bad stuff in your tank like the additives the city adds into it, as well as nutrients that algae love to feed on. If you don't want to buy a unit you can usually get if from your LFS for cheap, and since your tank is only 28g it will cost almost nothing to buy ro water. It's between 37 and 50 cents a gallon from the stores around my house

    or actually if DI is necessary the 125 model is doable. So i just hook this thing up to the kitchen sink?

    i was about to post this same question as i just saw my old specreapure unit broken. :( i'll be in the market, so i'm glad you asked (this reef hobby gets expensive quick!!!!)

    Yes you need a DI stage. It can be hooked up a number of ways. Water line, sink, water hose

    from what i've read to create a refugium in the jbj nano you do the following:

    media basket with filter floss on the top, chateo in the middle + a fuge light (jbj nano glo) and them chemi pure or purgen on the bottom.
