Rare and reef safe is going to be a hard combo unless you go with rare flasher wrasses, and I don't see any of those available the few places I looked.

I was going to recommend the pineapple fish, but it's not reef safe.

Here, this is about as rare as you get (and reef safe):
Drs. Foster and Smith Diver's Den® - Rainfordia opercularis

    Oh, you've got a price limit... :D

But honestly, those are hard constraints. Rare. Reef Safe. <$500.
That's kinda hard, but does depend on how you define "rare".

If it were me, that tank would be full or hard-to-get fairy wrasses (and probably some rare flashers too; read: P. bellae, P. attenuatus, P. octotaenia), but you probably already knew that... :)

I really like that candy basslet but i would want a pair and 1700$ hmmm dont think i can swing that lol achilles tang is a must would it work will with a red tail trigger? and the Amphpiora perc clowns would be safe in that size of a tank with another pair of clowns right? I have had mine since m first tank kinda attached to them lol

    Black tang, achilles tang
    Ocellaris clowns x2
    lawn mower Blenny
    YWG w/tiger pistol shrimp

IMHO, I'd pass on any trigger. It's going to very much narrow your fish selection and it'll be a PITA when it starts consuming your inverts.

What about a pair of cross hatch trigger fish? Last time I looked there was a pair for sale in the divers den. I wanna say they were 800 or 900 for the pair. I would post a link but I am on my iPhone.

triggers have a habit of snacking on inverts so they might be out lol those are some awesome looking fish though.
