Starting new 55 gallon

    I'm changing my 55 freshwater to a FOWLR. Right now I purchased 100lbs of sand from my LFS, and ordered a AquaC Remora protein skimmer from Marine Depot.com. I'm buying my LR and other accessories at my LFS.

    I wanted to know if it is possible to take down my freshwater, and start adding my sand, saltwater and LR, with my Emperor 400 running until my protein skimmer gets here. I'm guessing my skimmer should arrive on Monday or Tuesday, so it will be running with just the Emp 400 for about 3-4 days.

    Would this be alright?

    Sure why not I run my tank for 2 years without skimmer. good luck

    Go for it. The skimmer will help when you get it, but you'll be fine til then.

    Just make sure to clean your tank well. Have you used any medications in the 55? Any copper? Same for the Emperor. Clean it well. You are starting over with the cycle so don't leave any pollutants in your tank.

    I am going to take it outside, and use a garden hose to clean it, and wash the Emp good before I use it. I am going discard the bio wheels for now, and just add 2 new filter cartridges.
