    Hi All,

I have kept aquariums for about 5 years, however I have just taken the inevitable leap into marine!!

I have a 75g tank that was designed for freshwater, so I am starting my journey with a FOWLR setup.

I am currently in the middle of cycling my tank with live rock and am at the "ammonia zero, nitrites through the roof" stage with diatoms gone mad.

I look forward to reading through the forums and gleaning as much info as I can get!

Cheers and thanks in advance for advice.

    Sandie ;D

Welcome to 3reef, and to saltwater :) My only advice right now is to have patience, and read up as much as you can stand too!

    Hey All,
    Thanks for the welcome.

I am in no hurry to start stocking my tank, I absolutely will be reading as much as possible before I put anything in.

As for ideas for fish stock, well the deal clincher for my beautiful husband to pay for all of the live rock and most of the "stuff" for the set up, I have to include some clown fish. I have been to several LFS around Sydney and the little long horned cow fish really appeals, however I am not sure if he will suit a community type of tank?? That is about it for now, I am hoping to get my ideas from this forum.

I have included some photos of my diatoms along with my small amount of live rock.

welcome to 3 reef and the salt water keeping world. you'll never stop learning in this hobby.

what do you currently have in your set up? skimmer? live sand bed? IMO the more natural filters you have the better. for a FOWLR you dont need to worry to much however.

finally that day will come when you will want to start having inverts and corals, i suggest you start off with soft corals and learn keeping these before moving onto hard corals.
