This is random google image. It's like this. With the exception it is blue and I found it in the woods. I already played "bad guy/good guy" with it too. :rifle:

Is the 'hole' what you meant by 'clamp'? I think that's where you confused me

It has a lid, that's my whole issue. It does have a little like 'gas cap' sort of thing a couple inches diameter I can unscrew. It's not clean but it didn't smell of petrol (not that it can't be old oil).

If that is oil residue in there - when I light that thing up, it's not going to get so hot it's going to melt the steel is it? It should just burn itself out in a smokey sort of way?

no. not what I would call a bolt. There's that little lid thing I described above.

It's in the middle of the woods (future camp site). I don't mind carrying a wedge/chisel, but not a torch/supplies. Ugh. Maybe just being lazy though :)

    excellent point. thank you sir.

Guns are fun ;). Once you get the top cut off squirt some charcoal starter in there, stand back and throw a match in. It'll burn any residue off quick. And no it takes years for them to burn through. Make sure to shoot a few holes through the bottom to drain rain water.

i think the only way to get that off would be to cut it. well "easy way" at least.

the hole thing is not to use a torch. you have no idea what it was used for and having some sort of flammable liquid ignite in there is not a good experience. no need for accidents. you have fish back home to thing about :D

Step one: shoot lid with gun
step two: rotate barrel very slightly
step three: repeat until lid is free from barrel
