Anyone think I will get a big cycle just transferring everything from my 55g? I am going to use sand, water, and rock. Then I will slowly remove the LR and replace with my base rock? What if my base rock is cleaned, can I build my scape and then just place some LR in to get it all seeded?

I am hoping to be able to transfer everything to the 20g quickly...any estimates? Days, weeks?

I don't think a big one. Same water just different glass. I mix my tank up all the time and all survives. Actually think they like all the stirred up food

Thanks Blu, lol, I already know your thoughts

Water, LR, and running the VanSiphon all happened tonight. Tank is running great, couple small leaks to fix and that's about it.

Someone is buying my 55g tomorrow as is...so that leaves me with buying new sand, and all new corals! Kinda excited, kinda not.

That is actually part of the principal behind running a BB tank. Your power heads keep all the particulates cycling around in the water so they don't settle. It is also believed that your corals like to munch on this stuff while it is flowing around, or so I read. I could have misunderstood it though.

Hate to hear it is leaking though. Is it bad? From the sound of it you didn't seem to think so.

Also, is the LR you are using from the 55g or is this new LR? Just curious. Cycles are so frustrating to me but a necessary evil. Yay, my tank is set up now lets wait a month to do anything with it!

My next tank is probably going to take a long time to get going because I am using primarily base rock and only a few small pieces of live rock. I will be using about 50 lbs of base rock and about 10 lbs of live rock and letting it seed in a 55g tank. I'm not even going to bother with sand and see how the BB looks and see if it will keep me happy.

Good luck with your build and I'm interested to see how your 20g goes! Keep us posted and have fun! :D

It wasn't leaking bad at all and a little super glue fixed it right up.

The LR is all from the 55g tank so I cut down my cycle hopefully to almost nothing there. I don't have any sand in the tank right now either, buying LS ASAP.

If you don't already have the 55, I would highly recommend against it...get a 75. My 55 drove me insane with only 12" depth to build a nice scape...impossible to do.

Thanks for the luck and I will keep this updated often.

UPDATE* Clown and some shroom's in the 20g now. Everything seems fine and it's been about 6 hours. Water parameters are still good.

Having to find a light on CL, until my LED kit arrives, is proving to be difficult.

I have some how managed to accumulate 3 55g tanks. Not sure how I managed this but I have. Two are running fresh water. Other than that I have a canister filter laying around with bio wheels so I'm saving it for my third tank. I have to buy everything I can that doesn't spoil or die ahead of time. I'm getting some power heads soon and some base rock. Nothing alive.

Your set up looks pretty sweet I might do something like that with my 55s when the time comes. That's a display fuge and a night light for the kiddies :p

I understand what you were saying about depth but I can't even imagine having an even bigger tank lol. 55g is the biggest I've ever owned.

If you already have it I understand...the 75 is just leaps and bounds better IMO.

Base rock is in as well as new black live sand. Everything is doing very good so far. Still trying to decide what new fish and corals I will be getting...this is the one down fall of the 20g.

Finally got my PC back online...

Here is the tank as of now. Got my sand and placed my scape in the tank as well. I may go a little higher but want to make sure I have room for my corals too. I think I finally have my fish list all sorted out.

    Livestock plans are:
    My B&W Clown
    White stripe possum wrasse
    Black Axil Chromis
    Spotted/psycadelic mandarin

Maybe a clam later down the road, still unsure on this one. I am also unsure on which corals I am going to stock. Right now it looks like I will do some zoas, 1 or 2 buttons, and a neon green leather...maybe an SPS as well

The tank with a borrowed light, my LED's shipped out today! YAY

    That black sand is sweet.
