This is a quote from Steve..it occurred in 2007..but what a freaking bummer..just googgle if ya want more than this.. : )

    The qoute as follows

"Thanks all for your support in this disaster....I really appreciate it.

One thing though....this disaster was a people (me) failure....not an equipment failure. My inepitude and poor reaction to a problem was the true cause of this disaster. I have no one... or no thing... to blame other than myself. I made too big a deal and overreacted to a problem that was originally caused by my haste to begin with. The skimmer was just doing its thing as desgned. I really can't hook it up any differently though. Since the collection cup holds about two gallons of water....and since the self cleaning mechanism flushes that cup twice a day......and since I travel alot neccessitating a need for self reliance....I really can't change the way it is hooked up. What I need to do is find a way to prevent me from doing stupid things. Thanks again for all your support.
    Steve"

I checked it all out..good read...now Im trying to find out if he ever rebuilt it?

This tank has been down for several years. Basically Steve cleaned the pumps on his skimmer and then left the home. The skimmer had a drain and plumbed out to the street or sewer. The now clean pumps were working much more efficiently and once the broke in began to overflow the skimmer. This was the beginning of the end. The salinity drop was very bad and Steve tried to do an emergency water change and it was either too late or the water was not properly aerated as it may not have had time to mix all the way. It's really a non issue as either one could have been a fatal blow. Steve spent a lot of time building fail safes into the system. Unfortunately there was no fail safe to shut down the skimmer nor the top-off. That is the challenge of sps. It is living on the edge just a click away from loosing it all.

My bad, just found the issue. He sis not have a salinity issue, he just had to quiclkly make 200 gallons of salt and did not have time to do it the right way. Here it is in his own words...

Unfortunately he ditched plande to reaquascape and start over.

No he moved onto a new system. A cold water reef where he dives and collects his own animals
