nice tanks you have going, can you drive to the coast and collect your own coral / fish?

That would be cool, but the reef area between China and HK in the South China Sea is policed , you can see some of the area when you travel by ferry and its red marker bouyed and there are regular patrols around it by the police boats

you can without any issues collect stuff from the beaches, and I have seen Long Spined urchins plus various other members of CUC along with larger crab species and those tiny hermit crabs , but I have not collected anything because I would be hesitant to add anything that might bring problems in the form of pests or polutants

I fully agree with this too. Every really nice tank I've seen or read about has water changes done to it. I myself use to do weekly water changes, but have switched to bi-monthly to save on salt a little. I bought some multi element supplements to carry the tank through the longer period. However, I will always do water changes until there is hard evidence that not doing them is just as good as doing them.

I think Sparky mis-characterized it slightly. I don't think the 'no WC' crowd is in any way suggesting that in a 5 year span not one single WC will have taken place. I don't do them. But ever 3 months when I clean my skimmer this activity means I end up changing about 3 gallons of water (about how much the skimmer holds). When I changed some rock out, I changed 5 gallons. WC absolutely have their place. But I still say I'm in the 'no WC' crowd.

Looks great Steve. I know I promised you pictures of our sps corals but, alas, I never did get to taking any last weekend. I'll try again this weekend.

We have several milleopora in our tank. The green and blue one extend their polyps so far that they're almost hairy looking but the pink ones never seem to extend their polyps. SPS are a strange breed for sure.

yes certainly a whole different set of disciplines to learn, but you seem to be on top of it with your set up , and I am still looking forward to seeing some close ups of your corals

I'll give it a shot this weekend. Nobody ever told me that kids would take up ALL of my spare time. I feel misrepresented!
