Steve Wright's SPS takeover

quick update on this thread - this coral is starting to colour up nicely
you can just see the blue on the fringe of the growth on the frag plug

growth on this one has been pretty good, new blue tips showing


and to finish the only LPS left in the tank is still doing really well

Everything is looking great Steve. How do you feel about your decision to keep SPS as primary corals in this tank?

very happy with the decision so far, its given me a new set of disciplines to adapt to ( checking /maintaining the big 3 - which in a softie tank I never bothered with, to be honest as water changes kept everything looking as they should do)

I enjoy seeing the positive signs like growth which are easier to spot on my SPS as the area of growth is a different colour than the rest of the coral - with leathers and LPS - I knew they get bigger but didnt have the inbuilt measure that the SPS have

Looking good Steve. I'm taking the plunge with some SPS myself next month. I'm having some problems maintaining my dkh and ca levels though.

thank you Guy, Im practising with the camera still, cant get the focus to stay true using macro, might have to upgrade camera next.

remember the triangle Siddique, if your calc is increasing at the expense of your alk or vica versa, then you Mag is not able to hold all the ions in solution , once you get it a few small frags dont make much demand IME

Currently using 6 x 80 watt T5s - 2 x actinic plus 22K and 2 x aquablue plus 14k both Geisseman
and with those 4 I have 2 x aquamedic reef white 15K which throw out a load of light compared to the geisseman (visually, not sure about PAR)
