    Thanks reefmonkey
100% right in what you say, I spend hardly any time looking at softies in the LFS these days
the one I visit has 2 tanks devoted to SPS and thats where I spend most of my time browsing

    thanks John
The 1st one hopefully will be a light blue as thats the colour on the tips of the branches

the second one whilst looking very creamy from a distance
has flourescent green polyps (some are some are plain at present)
and the tips have a hint of purple

so the early signs are good, and its just a matter of time

adding these images as a record of GHA prior to comencing Vodka dosing

also adding this image as a record of typical algae coverage of rockwork prior to Vodka dosing

My N and P are both reading 0 according to Red Sea and Salifert test kits
but the general colour of the rockwork indicates this is not the case in reality

tank is now being skimmed by an Octopus BH1000
Deltec was past its prime and a replacement would have been expensive to purchase and ship out here or I would have needed to wait until April when a friend is visiting

wanted to add this image- as this encrusting Monti has taken off in terms of growth over last couple of weeks

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
    Nice Monti frag Steve.

You mentioned the color of the rock indicates some algae growth despite parameters of 0 for N and P? The last image of the rockwork I believe shows healthy development of green coralline and green film algae. Possibly a smiddgen of cyano on the power heads.

The development of cyano would not be unusual dosing carbon, that would be my concern.

Interesting to see how it plays out.

    Thank you Ivan

    Thanks Corailline

the dark red is also coraline, type calcerous algae, Corailline
its solid and can be scraped of same as the purple stuff
the green is film algae, its been receding due to Biofuel but stopped short of my ambition

there is no cyno at present - just a hard algae thats the same colour as cyno

Beautiful monti Steve, I would say the film algae growth isn't that bad but understand the desire to not have any. If you decide that you don't wish to continue carbon dosing chitons do wonders for destroying film algae on the rocks.
