I think your right Alex, its SELV (safety extra low voltage) rather than direct from mains, so it does feel safer

I have 363 unbirthdays most years and every 4 years 364

Yes Vinny thats the 3rd time this week now

    Thanks BTowned

no negatives at all thus far
    no cyno
    no peach fuzz bacteria
    no bacterial bloom
    no color fading in SPS
no loss of colour in LPS

so far so good, dosing 2.6mls for the next 5 days and may continue longer at that dose, being as I am seeing a marked reduction in rock covered algaes

I also didn't have any problems with vodka dosing, when I stopped, I was dosing 24 ml a day, I know it sounds like a lot, but at the time I had 13 fish...lol....Thats the best way to approach it, to slowly increase dosage, when needed, your corals will tell you when it's too much, or not enough.

Glad to see your success with carbon dosing....

    Thanks BTowned
24mls a day - that must have taken some time to build up to
Im on 0.5ml additional per week and thus 24 mils would take me another 40 weeks to reach
my feelings are that as conditions are improving and I have no measurable N or P, I should achieve maintenance dose withing a few more weeks

That's a good feeling to see actual numbers drop, for me to get up to 24 ml, took over a year and a half.

Thanks BTowned, yes it is a good feeling, I was naturally a bit skeptical, despite seeing many before and after photos of tanks that had been carbon dosed
but Im now beginning to appreciate just what the capabilities and benefits are, if your prepared to make the commitment to do it, and aslo in tune with your inhabitants so you can recognise any warning signs

Nowadays there are a lot of options, and with the information available, a little research pays off bigtime in the long run. I didn't see, what kind of bacteria are you dosing? I was using the Prodibio ReefDigest, which was one of the only ones I knew of at the time. I'm glad to hear you are having success, because on other sites, you almost read as many bad/horror stories as you do the successful ones.

I'm sure you can testify that acropora sure grow faster, when they aren't competing with algae for space on a rock.

read a few stories and your right there are a few negative ones when it comes to carbon dosing

I can certainly vouch for the more rapid growth of coraline due to the same principle BTowned
bacteria - dosed with MB7 initially, then stopped for a period whilst using Bio Fuel, after going back to Vodka I am now using 2 drops into my tank twice per week at present
