It is a dry heat, yeah right !
And it is growing by leaps and bounds. Thank you for including an image of it.
    :)

Strange that coral would do so well, then another STN. Goes to show how right you are about it being a lottery.

You got a lot of nice frags out of it, so hopefully the STN had something to do with placement.

Your avatar is doing the one sided tabling thing as well, like a RP. Very attractive blue tips.

    Welcome
yes that coral is without doubt showing the most growth of all my SPS currently - it was relocated for space 3 or so weeks ago and it has already reached out and touched, and encrusted on one of the rocks behind it

STN - this one may have been placement, in my later images you may have noticed the addition on yet another wavemaker on left had side
giving me 3 units there and 2 units on the right
I figured it may be a flow issue, with this being a compact multi branch type, I added additional flow and it did seem to slow down the progress

    Thanks John

hopefully have saved some of the coral at least

I should know better to be honest
in 20 months I have experienced 6 X sps loses now
and 4 of them have been wild collected colonies

in the same period, I have only had negative experience with 2 X frags / on frag plugs or mand made rock bases (like the Ora base)

when you consider I must have had 3 or 4 times as many frags, than wild collected
it goes to show that the potential for problems is much higher with wild collected SPS corals

Working at a store I was always tempted to bring things home from the orders we got in. I knew however that no matter how it looked right then, it would crap out eventually. It seemed to always happen to the wild colonies. Just one day they would up and die. didn't matter who's tank they were in. Idk if that's just the supplier or what but ill never ever buy a wild sps again.

Great shots Steve. Re: flow: You may have read this already, but it is a really good article on flow. It sheds some light on the various interactions between flow and other environmental parameters. Unfortunately, most hobbyists don't seem to understand these interactions enough to benefit as much as the information could, but they can be very useful for maintaining the health of our livestock.

    Thats a great ideal xavier613

it seems hit or miss as to the SPS ability to adjust to tank conditions
whereas corals that have been tank raised and then fragged
those frags dont know anything other than tank conditions and thus seem better able to adjust to changes (from tank to tank for example)

Definitely something to do with acclimation, I tested under all sorts of conditions, at one point I had 12 tanks setup. From halides with 10k bulbs to 20k and t5 lights, nothing really truely did well for more than a few months. The corals would grow and color up and everything, then one day id notice it stn. Either its just me or it might be a way they harvest them these days, cause we had to start with wild corals or we wouldn't have anything in our tanks lol.

As always, nice work Steve! I agree, tank raised whether it be ORA raised or wild caught then fragged to tank life...I have the SAME problems, 1/5 wild caught live while 4/5 tank raised thrive.

    Thank you m2434
Been studying that today, definitely given me something else to consider in the sucess or failure with SPS corals

    Nor Cal Guy, thank you
Your right, the odds are not great when looked at in that perspective
