I'm getting sick of my urchin and Cowrie (cone shell) playing havoc with both my rock layout and coral placement. I was wondering what people use to 'stick' it all down. Needs to be reef safe - obviously. And hopefully something available in Aust.

I did a quick search and could only come up with epoxy ? How well does it work and are there any other options ?

super glue gel works well... im sure you have that in aussie

also I like to use reef putty, stronger than glue but works awesome!

i know a few are using a 2 part epoxy that works really well. some will use the super glue gel , mainly for frags. and then theres also the putty, that you knead together

+1 on the super glue gel. That is all I have used and my urchin does not have the strength to take the frags that are glued down.

so looks like i'm trying the super glue gel. I'm assuming that its just super glue in a paste format that can set in water ? I'm also assuming that its not going to put harmful stuff into my tank ?

I just figure i'll ask a couple of stu[ied questions here than stuff up my tank. :)

There's two types of superglue. Regular (which is watery) and gel (which is just a little thicker). Neither type is bad for your tank.

Reef putty or 2 part resins, have a sort of glue and a hardener , when mixed together you get a plasticine or play dough type material , that slowly goes hard
its not permenent by any means, you can later snap the frag plug or rock away from where its fixed, but its strong enough to withstand general snail, crab and probably urchin attention (dont know, never kept an urchin)

the negative of putty IME is that snails, crabs and probably urchins will knock it off the putty during the 24 hours its curing

superglue is more instant , so coral frag plugs or coral rubble with frags on that can be stuck to the reef using superglue gel - have had a higher success rate for me, than coral plugs that have been attached with putty
(had to re position some the following morning due to nocturnal activity by snails that knocked over corals that where located using putty)

What kind of corals are you considering glueing to your rockwork? I ask because neither of those will work on mushrooms, xenia and the like.
