I had the same type of problem with my skimmer where it just wasn't skimming like it used to. So I took the pump off and did a nice cleaning inside. Now the pump is working alot more efficiant. So I guess it's a pretty basic fix but you never know.

Thanks man. Its all fixed.. its all a surface tension thing, some molecular bs. Basially after 20 years of using this same bio chamber in various wetdry systems, I finally decided to get rid of it and let all this LR i have piled up in the sump handle nitrogenous waste. I figure if its for gas exchange Im using it, plenty of that will happen in my skimmer and refugium and MT actually.. as long as im skimming the surface on both. And now my overflow is fixed, turns out there was a small clump of cheato caught up in the encased U portion of the overflow box. I had to drill another hole towards the front and stick a wire hanger down there to dislodge the cheato.

Now it appears both are working optimanlly. I just hope removing the bio chamber so suddenly doesnt mess too much up. If it does im sure its only a matter of time til the rock takes over where the bio balls left off.

So now the sump is a 55 galon tank pretty much filled with LR I had cooking for a month. Hope the rock is still bio active, i know the salinity rose pretty high with all that unattended evap. I still wanna use my chemipure and rowaphos medias but ill have to find another direct path to place them in, instead of the drip plate.

Thanks all for your help through this. I think aside from not gettin the surface skimmed and the tension the wetdry was breaking, there may also be something deteriorating in the tank, like plastic one of my heats rested on and it was releasing some kinda oils.
