I am setting up my 1st tank and ordered some black flexible vinyl tubing for overflow box and return (tank not drilled).

Last night I took it out of the shipping bag and noticed it has a very strong rubbery smell. My hand still stink after several washes. Do you know if that rubber tubing is harmful to the fish? should I just air it out? soak it in water? or anything I can do regarding the stinky smell? more importantly, i don't want my fishes to die of BPA... should i just buy new ones (hopefully the clear ones don't stink)?

    Thank you for your thoughts.

I don't know for sure but i would be concerned. Any reason you won't drill the tank? It s very easy to do and reduces the hassle factor a ton IME.

Call DFS~their customer service is great. Personally if it smells that bad I wouldn't be using it. I'd at least soak it in some bleach over night.

I understand drilled tank would be safer but I am afraid to drill glass and the "what if's". guess i have to live with the overflow box for now...

I will call DFS and see what they say. guess it is unusual for vinyl tubing to be extremely smelly?
