Stock Aquarium As Sump--Mechanical Filtration Needed

Hey sparky, I think this would be you best bet..its just a filter sock with a reusable ziptie,tied to the pvc pipe.easy to place and remove to clean..just toss in washer with no soap and good to go...

 

I didn't really see the part where it was decided it was from no mechanical filtration. But I certainly won't argue your best judgment with your experience. The sock is a good deal. I sort of would not mind clearing up my water a bit just for the heck of it. I sure had it clear before.

 

I took a picture using my clothes hamper as a stand-in for my sump.

I have a bubble trap between the first chamber (where water enters the sump) and the main chamber where my skimmer and return pump is. I stuffed the first chamber half full of live rock rubble so water is forced to go through it. The middle pane in the bubble trap is around 2" from the top of the sump and All I do with a large sock is rest its rim on that. It's been working great that way for a few months now with 0 problems.
