In process of stocking my 65g with 20g sump/refugium. Refugium is 11.75" x 11.75" with live rock and macroalgae (chaeto, fern and grape fern caulerpa, and ulva). Substrate: 40 lbs special grade in display tank.

Aquascape Video Tour: 65g Aquascape Tour 11119-051.3gp - YouTube

    Current Stock List:

    • 2 oscellarius clowns: b&w and orange & white
    • PJ Cardinal
    • Tominius Tang
    • Yellow Watchman Goby / Pistol Shrimp (to be added tomorrow)
    • Royal Gramma (to be added tomorrow)

Under Consideration: these would complete the livestock for this tank.

    • 2 Schooling Bannerfish (heniochus diphreutes), and
    • 1 Bluejaw/ Bluechin Triggerfish

Obvisously, the bluejaw trigger is controversial. That said, I have it from people who have added them to a 65g reef that unless I get the oddball bluejaw, I should expect him to work out well with the above combination.

Understanding also that the bio load will be on the higher side given the numbers of fish.

    Feedback, please. :)

Appreciate your input. :) I should also mention that there is a skimmer (just assumed that was understood) along with 1 purigen and 2 chemi-pure packs; a filter sock that is changed regularly.

As you can see by my original post, I do. That said, it's been modified as my goals as matured from a fowlr to an easy-to-keep-low-maintenance reef...adding coral as budget and lighting allow... (that's another thread, I would think...would like to concentrate on the live-stock list here...)

So, updating current list (what's in the tank now, not counting inverts):

    Current Stock List:

    • 2 oscellarius clowns: b&w and orange & white
    • PJ Cardinal aka Spotted Cardinal
    • Tominius Tang
    • Kole Tang
    • Yellow Watchman Goby / Pistol Shrimp (to be added tomorrow)
    • Royal Gramma (to be added tomorrow)
    • Tribal Blenny
    Will be adding:
    • Neon or Sharknose cleaner goby

So, that's now fairly well-stocked tank and do not want to any more 'large' fish (mine still small to small-medium that will obviously get larger) :) Tannk is very healthy with a very large volume of live pukani (very porous and offering sanctuary for even the largest fish). Aquascaping designed for 360 running room, including 'crossovers', etc.

I'm interested to know if there are any small fish like for example the Royal Gramma which are as stunning and with low bio-load? Most of my research have been with the larger fish when I was thinking semi-aggressive fowlr.

IMO your tank is pretty small for the trigger and tang, it's only 36 inches in length. The bannerfish I don't know

+1. The thing with tangs is that they like to swim from side-to-side. I liked your original stocking list for this tank better.

My observations of the tangs, based on the tomini and kole... 3 weeks and one week as of tomorrow respectively... obviously there's still an ongoing acclimation process... is that the tomini does not seem to need much 'running room'. The rockscape was designed with 360 running room in mind and so far it's primarily the kole that has been taking and real ongoing advantage of it. He's relaxed quite a bit in a fairly short period of time.

The kole's also hooked up with the cleaner shrimp and both have quite the relationship going! :) I'm hoping to capture a video to post as this is a fascinating pair to watch - the kole even opens his mouth for inspection by the shrimp!

Regarding the schooling bannerfish, I actually had 2 in the tank for just under 24 hrs. A reason I pulled them out is that they seemed quite awkward navigating the rockscape. It sure looks to me that the tangs together are much happier than the banners.

Worth noting, the kole as been intervening when observing the tomini (smaller of the two) picking on the tribal blenny.

I'm very pleased with the current selection albeit still on the lookout for a neon cleaner goby when one becomes available.
