so i've got this 40g breeder with the following:

    fish:
    green mandarin dragonet

    corals:
    alot of mushrooms
    kryptonite candycane
    war coral
    blasto
    frogspawn
    zoas

    misc:
2 pep shrimp (i don't care bout these guys just added to take out aptasia)
a couple of orange shell snails
a couple of ninja star snails
    1 blue leg hermit

i'm wanting to add the next fish but i don't want something that will completley wipe out the pods like a wrasse or harass my mandarin but here's what i'm considering

    please don't think i'm crazy

    saddle puffer
    flame hawkfish
    lemmon peel angel

i am open to other suggestions but please don't recommend a firefish

also i'm curious if two gobies can live together in this tank (if i don't get the above)

like the catalina goby and hi fin red banded goby

    TIA

The catalina goby is a TEMPERATE water fish, and won't do well at tropical temps. This fish is best kept at 70*F max, but temps in the 60's are better.

A two spot goby would probably do well but I would try to somthing that didnt sift or eat sand so that the pod population never goes down.

here are some that would work not all but some:

    clown goby
    chalk bass
    pair of false percs
    chromis
    cardinal fish
    midas blenny
    canary blenny
    tail spot blenny
    barnacal blenny

i do want a goby still trying to find the right one but i want something that will really add some wow character to the tank a lot like an angel, tang (my tank is too small for a tang tho) i really like the flame hawkfish and his crazy eyes they look so goofy

my LFS has a tiny saddle puffer and they said they don't get too big and might it some corals but i'm mainly concerned about how he gets along w/other fish i just don't want him to be eating my manderin and if he starts really doing damage on my corals he needs to get along with my other tanks inhabitants

Saddle or Valentini puffer should be fine with other fishand probably corals but will go after shrimp and snails.i had one in a nano with YWG and pigmy hawkfish(or high finned perchlet, very cool fish) with no problems. He did eat snails which are a good food for him but not hermits.

Sharpnose Puffers (ones that aren't fat) tend to get along with other fish well. Not that all of the fat ones don't, but it gets a little riskier and depends on the individual more. You'll loose your shrimp, hermit, and possibly the snails as well. My friend with a valentini only had luck with turbo snails for clean up crew, so you can always get a couple of those if the others are eaten. Puffers also have teeth that grow like rodents' so you'll have to give it some small snails or something similar every now and then to keep them from overgrowing.

I think you are fine otherwise. The angel will get pretty big, but as long as there isn't too much rockwork for her to swim I think you're good, and I'm sure there is considering you have a breeder.

    The Saddle Valentini Puffer:

A 30 gallon or larger, fish-only aquarium is suitable. It will fight with conspecifics such as the filefish, large finned fish, and other tobies. It may be aggressive at times, nipping the fins of tank mates, leaving a circular hole as its mark. It will also eat invertebrates found in a reef tank. Its teeth are actually a fused beak-like structure. Parts of its flesh are poisonous. It has the ability, when threatened or alarmed, to inflate its body to almost twice its normal size. It becomes alarmed when netted, therefore, use a container to transfer it.

IME these fish can be aggresive with others but should leave gobies alone.

i check liveaquaria before i check anything else but thanks for posting anyway!

i think i will be getting one and i can get some hard corals skelton to help their beaks i hope that will help but for now i went a different route

i bit the bullet and went with my first choice a flame hawkfish and man do i love this guy so far he got introduced last night right before i fed my corals and the lights went off i made sure to throw in some frozen mysis along w/the coral food just in case he would eat and he did! so that makes me feel better

this morning i threw in just a few flakes and he gobbled those up too i can't wait to get home w/the lights on and feed this guy a real meal...

i will post up pics on my show of your tank thread later because i haven't been able to snap any pictures..

thanks for your help i really think that i will either get some type of goby next month and then in another month or so once the goby gets settled i will go for the valentini saddle puffer they are pretty cool
