    simple answer, no.
anthia are to active and prefer to be kept in larger schools but don't need to and some get 8 inches or so. 3 anthia in a 40 gallon is like a 8 inch tang in a 40 gallon or 3 active and semi large fairy wrasse in a 40 gallon! not to mention that anthia are fragile and need frequent feedings so they are not the beginner fish to.

Really just anything that catches my eye! I have a YWG like I said, so I dono probably not another bottom dweller. Then the hawkfish is a percher, probably no more perchers. I'm really torn btwn 3 fish right now, a mandarin, some type of dwarf angel, or a gramma... I dono which one or ones would be best. But like I said I'm open to all suggestions. I'll have to take at look at the anthia's yall mentioned above.

Thanks for the input! I'm gunna have to watch my hawk for awhile once I get him in my DT. He's got quite the personality, but obviously I haven't seen him around any other fish. I heard that about royal gramma's too, but by the time I'd be adding him (if i do), my other fish will have their territories staked out. So hopefully I'll avoid any aggresion.

I think it depends as to what fish I'll be getting swimming room wise. Obviously, not all fish are active swimmers. Definitely plays a part in decision making though, so we'll see.

I have a biggg clean-up crew. So no worries, skimmers not the only one cleaning.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Anthias are very active swimmers and eaters, should really be feed a decent amount at least twice a day.

The old broken record "I do not see an mandarin working".

So my vote goes for Fire fish, RG or some other type of small basslet, like Chalk.

The Carpenter's wrasse will be a very active swimmer, as well, and a 40 breeder isn't going to be long enough for it when it swims.

Also, how many fish you can have in a tank doesn't only depend on their size or how much filtration you have, it depends on what areas they occupy and how they interact with other fish.

Haha corailline, I was hoping you'd chime in :). Yeah I really know nothing about anthia's, but I'll take your word for it.. So why do you think a mandarin wouldn't work? I know I've seen a few threads where ppl were deterring the OP away from mandy's but never really saw any explanations as to why not.. Just curious!!

I'll have to check out the chalk, I don't think I've ever seen one! The RG is really growing on me more though, not gunna lie.

Hey thanks for the input sushigirl. Do you have any personal experiences with a carpenters?

I've read a few places where it said 30 was acceptable, then others where it said 50.. But my thought was, my tank is pretty long, and has the same footprint as a 55.. The 55 is just deeper.. What do you think is acceptable tank size for those guys?
