Since starting my tank a few months ago there has been a steady increase in the number of Stomatella.

Will they continue to multiply past the tanks ability to feed and house them?

If so how do I control their numbers? I wouldn't mind giving them away. I have heard they were difficult to collect since there foot detaches like a lizard's tail though.

Their numbers are controlled by the available food, algae.

Nope, they'll never really reach pest proportions. They'll end up growing to a certain population, then diminishing slowly as a few starve off starve, and you'll end up with a fairly steady number over time.

Ah that's a relief. My only experience with snails has been in freshwater planted tanks. That experience was not pleasant.

Give some away, for sure. They're great algae eaters that will reproduce in tanks! Exciting! LOL

I've heard about them detaching part of their foot, but I have yet to see it in my years yet. Then again, I've never tried catching one by hand either!

Edit: I did watch the guy at the store catch 2 that I bought. Neither dropped a foot.

I think it may be more if something pinches the back of their foot, rather than the front of their body. That's the way I understand their ability to drop their foot - the back half or so.
