OK, so I have a few stomatella's in my tank. I noticed them releasing a very fine, white, almost chalky substance into the water. Is this them mating? The fish and cleaner shrimp were going nuts over it.

Mine will surive even with the skimmer running, the 'fuge probably helps w/ that. I also have stombus maculatus like crazy, I just give them to fellow reefers.

    Good Job!!

great post, I actually notices this about a month ago, I saw the stomatella doing this didn't know what was going on. Saw it again and figured this might be it, thanks for the confirmation and bringing it up.

Thanks. I had a hunch this is what is going on, but wanted to be sure. I havent seen any eggs yet, just the spunk in the water. I figured it wasn't anything harmful, but wanted to make sure since the fish and cleaner shrimp eat so much of it. I actually didn't even notice them until a month or so ago, and the mating started maybe two weeks ago? It was going on again last night, guess the move didnt upset them too much either.
Anybody have any ideas on gestation periods/growth rates?

Man, they are doing it at least 3 times a week. Must still be in their honeymoon phase ;D
