Stone vs. Soft?

    Whats the difference between stone coral and soft coral?

    One is stony and one is soft :)

    The most basic difference between them is that stony corals, like sps and lps corals, have a hard calcerous skeleton and soft corals do not. Naturally, the level of care that each requires differ significantly.

    Im assuming stone corals are more difficult to maintain.

    Soft coral, here i come :)

    Yes, most stony corals require more care than soft corals do. You might want to keep them eventually but if you're just starting out, I'd try my hand with some soft corals first. Assuming you have adequate light for them, you can also try to keep some hardier species of stony LPS corals like frogspawns, hammer corals or brain corals :)
