You can jailbreak your phone and dump in a new card and do that at any time. They say that people who drop calls are due to them never turning the telephone off. Apparently if you shut it off at night you will not have that problem….something about receiving pushes from the network on boot up. I live in PA and work in Jersey and have never dropped a call ? not even once, nor has the wife. If we did – I wouldn’t be buying another iphone

Well in the US, we only have att and tmobile. ATT is alot better then tmobile atm. The only thing tmobile is good for is the price.

Yeah, the media can slant anything how they want it.

Until just recently some people thought that ATT was behind on their network. Then ATT had to put out a whole new ad campaign to squash that rumor that somehow still existed.

That's not to say that everyone will get served best by one company across the nation. For those people that live in the few areas that ATT doesn't serve too well, then those folks should go with the best carrier for them.

Also, ALL carriers drop calls, some less than others. IME, from Maine to Ca, ATT has been very good to me with great service.

Yeah, I'm currently jailbroken and on the original baseband that came with the 3GS. So I do have the option to Unlock the phone and drop in a TMobile sim. However I would either have 2 plans going at once and only using one, or paying AT&T the ETF to get out of my contract. I've been thinking about it more and more. Interesting point about turning the phone off at night, I might give that a shot.

I actually live in Jersey and work in Philly. I've dropped calls in and in front of my house - On the Ben Franklin going to work - then once in Center City near Love Park, forget about it. I dial a # and it says "Calling..." for upwards of 30 seconds before it actually connects. Then a minute or two in the call is lost. I've had terrible luck with 3G in the city too - full bars but the data creeps. Web pages and Slacker Radio take twice as long to load if not more when in the city compared to at home. Comparatively, I have much better luck in Jersey - I only drop 1 out of every 10 or 15 calls I would guess and much better data speeds.

....am I the only person who refuses to buy an iPhone because of Apple's insane policy towards the iPhone API, outside applications and enforcing morals upon the masses?

I still refuse to buy from a corporation that's vehemently opposed to freedom of programming on their platform. Jailbreaking doesn't help me avoid giving Apple profit. It's voting with the dollar.
