store water vs home made water

im wondering the pros and cons of each one. im hoping everyone here can shead some light on this subject.

PS yes im talking about saltwater.

 

I would much rather make my own water so I know with a TDS meter if it is clean. How would you know the last time your LFS changed their filters in the RO/DI unit...
That would be gambling just like in Vegas, and it matters how much you got invested in livestock to be playing that game.

 

yeah ive been wondering that myself.. im in an apartment and installing a RO unit would be, well "too much" in all aspects.. i asked the LFS guy the other day, "hey what levels is your water at here? and he was like "uh, the PH should be right".. that scared me...

 

ask your apartment manager.... most of the times (unless they are complete *%#@^) any upgrades you make to the apartment is fine... as long as you are a long term person there and you are willing to return the piping to the original condition (within reason) before you move

 

It is easy to put a valve in your feed line under the sink and then mount a drain. The one I picked up from www.airwaterice.com Products and answers for your water treatment needs. came with all the fittings and connectors and they are a 3reef sponsor.

 

A LFS here, were took a TDS meter to their RO water and it was worse then tap water. They have a 2000g stock tank on a high shelf in the quarantine room, so its open to whatever is floating in the air. All the stuff that is floating goes into the tank settles in the bottom to where there is nice layer of crap rotting, and we all know what that does to water.

If you dont have a RO unit, I would look into buying distilled water. Its usually .50 cents a gallon. If you cant find that, find the drinking water sold by the gallon, its not perfect, but usually close to perfect when checked by a TDS meter.

 

what about the saltwater side of things not just RO water

 

If you are worried about tampering with the plumbing use a faucet adapter for the inlet and just place the drain hose in the sink. You are really not tampering with anything by doing it that way.
