Instead of doing my usual weekly 5 gallon water change, I was wondering if it would be better to do daily 1 gallon changes. The guy I bought my aquarium from swore by this method and said it's a surefire way to keep up pristine water quality.

I was thinking of mixing up 5 gallons of saltwater and storing it in a sealed bucket, then doing the daily changes at my convenience. Would there be anything wrong with this? Algae growth in the bucket may be a concern (it's translucent), but I could always put it in a closet.

I keep mine in an airtight, good quality garbage can.

please explain why air is a bad thing. only thing i can think of would be evaporation, but one could top off with ro/di water daily to assure the right salinity before doing the daily water change.

I have heard that some elements may settle out of the salt mix or become depleted naturally over time in storage. I have stored my salt mix in sealed 5 gal buckets before, but I have had problems with calcium levels so I stopped doing that. It has only been 2 water changes, but I have seen some small improvements.

Yea but what is the TDS of the tap water???? That is what you need to worry about

    Air brings and carries contaminants.
