How much flow do I need in my top off and salt water storage garbage cans to keep the water from becoming stagnant? I'm using a Brute garbage can. Should I have a pump or power head running in there and if so do I need to run it continuously?

    I believe

you dont need any flow in there to store it
some flow in there is ideal when mixing
some flow in there for 24 hours prior to using it, would be beneficial
to help with oxygen levels in there

but made up salt water is available commercially and its stored for weeks . months in air tight containers, with obviously no flow in there

+1 steve!!, as long as it is in a tightly sealed container, you dont need to mix it until 24 hrs before use

Just to clarify- this also applies to RO/DI, unsalted water kept in a garbage can with a not air tight lid on it?

I recommend only using food grade containers for storing water. The others have very high levels of plasticizers that leach out.

I go and buy the pickle buckets from Firehouse Subs....only 2 bucks a bucket, but they are only five gallons....what companies sell large food grade containers?

    I'm with Steve.

Zero flow unless mixing in salt.

Aerate RO/DI for 6-8 hrs before placing in tank. Thats if it's been sitting for weeks without an airtight seal.

I'm using a Brute with lid and a float valve installed. Seems like a good amount of folks use these for water storage. I mainly just wasn't sure if I needed circulation here. A friend keeps a powerhead running in his and it just didn't seem necessary to me. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't wrong about that.

    Thanks for the input!
