well, I really messed up yesterday. I got my nice titanium heater about 2 weeks ago and it was working fine. And I got my skimmer running nicely. But I don't have my RO-unit yet, so I have to do the top of myself (That'll change after Christmas).
And some things happened in the last week (more about that later), so I kinda forgot to do much about the tank. So the disaster struck yesterday...
The water level in my sump went too low, so the pump of the skimmer ran dry... for a while...
Then, the heater is in the sump as well, and was on top of the water level and you can imagine, what happened. It burned up... And since it's mounted to the wall of my acrylic sump it also burned up the wall of that sump. And there came this really really bad smell of rotten eggs out of my sump, which my fish and corals probably wouldn't like much.

Well, that started like a merry Christmas to me...
So, I unplugged the skimmer and the heater and waited for the heater to cool down. I looked at the sump, the wall was deformed and looked cracked... great... I also dumped some good water conditioner in the tank, maybe it would take care of whatever chemical produced that smell.

But then there came some good luck. I took out the heater a little later and found out, the "cracks" were just salt, and I took a very good look at that sump. It did survive it. It is bend out a little, but it is not cracked or in any way really broken. So I carefully filled up the sump and it's fine...
And the second piece of luck. I tried the skimmer, and that's all right too :)
And, all my fish and corals are not only still alive but don't seem to have noticed anything at all.
So after all that'll cost me 30 dollars for a new heater, that I already ordered. I guess I can handle that.

That's one piece of Christmas luck ...

Congrats!!!! What a great Christmas surprise!!!!!

My daughter saved us from me setting the house on fire the other day! (what is with the heaters this week!)

I had my hospital tank set up with just the pump running and the heater....I turned on the ro/di to top it off and forgot it was running. My daughter came running upstairs saying"the little tank is going Bsst Bsst Bsst....."

Sure enough, my heater was under water and smoking!!!

    Got it unplugged without incedent!

    Merry Christmas All!!!!
